President’s Message, Jan 2012

Happy New year everyone! It is a delight to be back to the Club after a long absence. For our members that I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, a wee bit of history….member-at-large plant sale chair, vice-president, president and member garden tour committee  were positions that I have held, definitely not qualified for the historian position as my recall for the dates I held these positions escapes me!

For those that recall those good old days it was like pulling teeth for me to get the president’s message written and in by deadline, admittedly not my favourite thing to do…which brings me to my favs.  Adore exploring nurseries for new, unusual plants and design ideas.  My passion for gardening began with container gardening (only had pavement to work with) and continues on even though I now have property to dig and play in.  Learning to incorporate ornamental edibles into the front yard which has started yet another front yard redesign, the grass is almost all gone, just a wee patch of boulevard grass left to go!

So what makes you passionate about gardening? Do you know of speakers that inspire?   Subjects you would love to learn more about?  (Front yard ornamental veggie gardening and vertical gardens are on the top of my wish list.) Do you like to do nursery tours? Do you have favourite nurseries that you would like to visit? Tours you would like to see happen? Ideas for workshops?New book purchases? Lynne has included a survey into the Sprout so our executive can learn more about your interests and we will do our best (with your assistance) to make your suggestions happen.

The executive would like to bring back the Harvest Supper in September; it is such a lovely event with fresh food and flowers from the garden; a great way to kick off the fall season after our summer break. So the search is on for a Chairperson (s) to arrange the event…..are you interested? Please contact an executive member if you are.

We are introducing a social corner into the Sprout to let our membership know about sad or happy events. Is someone ill? Suffered a loss? Celebrating an event? Please advise Editor Lynne.

We had some members expressing their concerns about the political campaigning during the November meeting. We apologize if we offended anyone and respectfully advise that we will not allow any further political campaigning (that is not part of our own executive elections) at our meetings. Thank you for your understanding, if you have any questions please contact one of the executive members.

Thank you so much Jim for all of your hard work, we all look forward to working with you in your positions as Past President, Tech. Dude and Web-Site Editor… will be a blast!

May all that grows in your garden be what your heart desires….Shirl
