The PoCo Garden Club held its 20th anniversary garden party on July 09, 2010 at the home of Stacey & Cyrille Barnabe, where we all enjoyed their lovely woodland garden. Our heartfelt thanks to them for their considerable efforts in providing their home and garden for the evening’s festivities; they also hosted the 10th anniversary party so their efforts over the years are much appreciated. Turnout was exceptional at 67 people, which is about 2/3 of our membership; we were very pleased that so many people could be there to help us celebrate this milestone.
The event was catered by one of our members, Inge Clarke, who kindly donated her time in preparation of the food which all agreed was delicious. If anyone is looking for a top notch caterer, Inge can be contacted at 604-629-8929.
Special guests were Thelma Scales & Joy Swaddling as well as councillor Sherry Carroll, representing the city of Port Coquitlam. Susan Walter, founder of the Sprout & founding member was unable to attend due to a prior commitment.
Eurilda Larsen and Pippa VanVelzen made a joint presentation recalling the past history of the garden club, recalling fondly, in particular, the efforts of Len Cuddeford, back in 1990, in founding the club. They recalled all the good times as well as some leaner times when it was a struggle to keep the club going. All agreed that it was worth the effort and we all look forward to our 25th anniversary, and many other to come.
At one point, we had all the presidents who were on hand, past and present, for a group photo; it included (left to right) Jim Thorleifson, Lynette Treacy, Wendy Koeppen, Marlene Beach, Stacey Barnabe and Eurilda Larsen. Past presidents not present were Shirley Keski-Hynnila and Nick Grimshawe.
